Commerce Department Announces Agreement with SolAero

A $23 Million preliminary agreement would expand radiation-resistant semiconductors for solar panels.

The Commerce Department recently signed a non-binding preliminary agreement with SolAero Technologies under the CHIPS and Science Act for a $23 million deal to expand the production of radiation-resistant semiconductors. These specialized microchips are an essential component of solar panels, and SolAreo’s Rocket Lab production facility has already created the semiconductors necessary to power the James Webb Telescope and other spacecraft.

“Solar cells are important for keeping our communication and space technology powered and operational, and this proposed award would help our military, NASA, and our commercial space industry have access to the specialty semiconductors they need to keep our country safe and continue to lead in scientific discoveries and space commerce,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Raimondo to be led by God as she supports domestic production under the CHIPS and Science Act.
  • For U.S. commerce officials to be prudent in their collaboration on microchip and semiconductor manfacucturing.
